Sudan crisis deepens: IOM calls for increased donations

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has urged countries to increase donations in response to the severe displacement crisis in Sudan.

On Tuesday, the IOM warned that inaction could cost tens of thousands of lives.

The IOM has only received 21% of the required support to deliver essential aid to Sudanese people.

Mohamed Refaat, leading the IOM’s Sudan mission, highlighted the dire situation of hunger, disease, and floods affecting the region.

Refaat criticized the international community for its insufficient response.

He emphasized the urgent need for a substantial and coordinated global effort to prevent a worsening crisis.

Without immediate action, the IOM fears tens of thousands of preventable deaths could occur in the near future.

The global community is urged to address this escalating humanitarian emergency.

Since the conflict began in April 2023, Sudan has faced intense violence and severe famine conditions.

Over 10.7 million people are internally displaced, with 2.3 million fleeing the country.
