Sudan junta leader Burhan in Eritrea to discuss border issues

Sudan’s junta leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on Friday to initiate high-level bilateral talks.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki welcomed Burhan to discuss urgent regional security matters and economic cooperation.

The diplomatic summit focused on fortifying the shared 600-kilometre border against persistent smuggling and irregular migration networks.

Both leaders pledged to unify their strategic positions regarding the increasingly volatile and critical Red Sea maritime corridor.

Bilateral relations between the neighbouring African nations have strengthened significantly since the destructive war in Sudan erupted.

Resumed joint committees now actively work to enhance cross-border trade exchange and ensure mutual defense stability.
