Sudan war kills, injures over 330 children in early 2026

Fighting across Sudan killed or injured at least 330 children during the first half of 2026, with the heaviest toll recorded in Darfur and Kordofan, UNICEF said.

The agency warned that the situation in El Obeid and surrounding areas of North Kordofan is increasingly alarming as violence continues to expose children to deadly risks.

Since May, drone strikes have killed more than 18 children and injured at least 17 others around El Obeid, leaving families trapped beneath the shadow of persistent attacks.

UNICEF said drone attacks accounted for 60% of child casualties recorded in the area during the period, underscoring the growing threat posed by aerial warfare.

The agency renewed its warning that children remain among the conflict’s most vulnerable victims, as violence continues to deepen the humanitarian crisis across Sudan.
