Sudanese army suffers defeats in Tandelti, Mount Kordofan against RSF

In a series of intense clashes on Wednesday, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced it had achieved significant victories in North Kordofan State against the Sudanese army.

The clashes took place after the army attempted to take control of the national road between the towns of Kosti and Obeid, the group said.

“At the Mount Kordofan front, our brave soldiers successfully repelled an enemy assault, dealing a heavy blow to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its extremist allies.”

RSF said more than 400 combatants had been neutralized and its forces had seized a substantial cache of enemy equipment, including combat vehicles, tanks, and ammunition-laden trucks.

RSF added that its forces, in clashes around the Tandalti-Umm Rowaba axis, had defeated another division of SAF and allied “jihadist militias,” killing over 500 fighters and securing additional combat vehicles, trucks, and essential supplies.

Sudan has been mired by fighting between the army, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who is the head of the ruling Sovereign Council, and the RSF.

At least 13,900 people have been killed and more than eight million displaced in the conflict that started in April 2023, according to UN figures.

Several cease-fire agreements brokered by Saudi Arabia and US mediators have failed to end the violence.
