Sudanese diplomat attacked in South Sudan after SAF massacres

A Sudanese diplomat, Yahya Mohamed Othman Hashem, was attacked on Thursday in the lobby of a hotel in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, in an incident that escalated tensions between the two countries.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident began with verbal insults directed at the diplomat, which soon led to a physical altercation. It is believed that the attack was linked to recent reports of severe human rights violations by General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) against South Sudanese citizens in Sudan’s Al-Jazeera state (Gezira), including alleged racial abuses and killings.

During the altercation, the assailants demanded that Hashem leave South Sudan immediately.

However, the situation was de-escalated after bystanders intervened, and security forces arrived on the scene. The security forces were able to restore order and end the confrontation.

The incident has raised significant concerns about the relationship between Sudan and South Sudan, especially given the heightened tensions in the region in recent days.

South Sudanese authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway and that those responsible will be brought to justice.

This development comes at a time when tensions between the two countries have intensified over alleged SAF violations against South Sudanese in Al-Jazeera, sparking widespread outrage in South Sudan.
