Sudanese Prime Minister Professor Kamel Idris has stressed the importance of national unity during this critical period, calling for internal cohesion to achieve victory in the “battle for dignity,” end rebellion, and safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
In a meeting on Thursday morning with Al-Sadiq Al-Raziki, head of the Sudanese Journalists’ Union, Idris praised the pivotal role of national media, acknowledging the efforts of journalists despite the difficult conditions affecting all sectors of Sudanese society. “Everyone is equal in defending their homeland and protecting its people and land,” he said, emphasising that the media has fully fulfilled its role during this challenging period.
In a notable move, the Prime Minister announced instructions to withdraw recent complaints filed against several journalists, which had sparked widespread controversy. He called for closing the chapter on misunderstandings and tensions between some official bodies and media institutions.
Idris also highlighted the government’s commitment to reforming the media environment, creating conditions for responsible journalism, safeguarding freedom of expression, and removing barriers to access information, which he described as an inalienable right.
He urged journalists to engage in serious dialogue on media and societal issues and contribute to a unified national vision that promotes reconciliation and protects the country from divisions, while adhering to professional and ethical standards.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government’s dedication to reviewing laws governing journalism, improving social conditions for media workers, and restoring media institutions to fully perform their roles as part of a broader plan for reconstruction and addressing the consequences of the war.
