SAF airstrikes destroy Al-Jili Oil Refinery, RSF calls for investigation

General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) warplanes have reportedly bombed the Al-Jili oil refinery north of Khartoum, causing extensive damage to its facilities.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have condemned the attack, labeling it a war crime and accusing the SAF’s air force of targeting the refinery with explosive barrels.

In a statement issued this morning, the RSF stated that the latest airstrike destroyed the remaining parts of the refinery, marking the facility’s complete destruction. The RSF also called the attack part of the ongoing campaign of violence by what they refer to as the “terrorist Islamic Movement army.”

“We condemn these barbaric actions and call on international organizations to document these crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the RSF’s statement read. “We urge independent media outlets to expose the truth about the actions of the Islamic Movement army.”

The RSF emphasized its commitment to continuing its fight against what it considers the extremist influence of the Islamic Movement (Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood), vowing to work with the Sudanese people to rebuild the country on equitable and just foundations.

The attack is part of escalating tensions in Sudan as both sides in the ongoing conflict vie for control. International calls for ceasefire and accountability have grown louder, though a resolution remains elusive.
