Sudan’s TASIS cuts media ties with Al Jazeera citing Burhan favouritism

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has announced the suspension of all cooperation and media engagement with Al Jazeera, accusing the network of biased reporting on Sudan.

In a statement issued Monday, the coalition said the move follows what it described as Al Jazeera’s “clear bias” toward the Islamist movement, the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army, and allied militias, claiming the channel has violated journalistic standards of professionalism and objectivity.

TASIS said that Al Jazeera’s editorial policy had aligned with an agenda sympathetic to Islamist forces, citing programmes such as Sudan Window as platforms for disseminating misleading information against the alliance and its forces.

The coalition accused Al Jazeera correspondents of producing daily reports that lacked credibility, saying their coverage distorted facts and misled public opinion about developments in Sudan.

It further criticised the channel’s social programme Sudan Diwan, saying it hosted figures aligned with the Islamist army, including some of its executive leaders, while marginalising voices calling for peace and truth.

According to the statement, TASIS condemned what it described as the channel’s “unfair editorial approach,” claiming presenters asked veiled questions and provided insufficient airtime for the coalition’s views.

The group expressed regret over Al Jazeera’s alleged disregard for atrocities committed by the Islamist army and its militias, accusing the network of overlooking massacres against unarmed civilians across Sudan.

Tasis said it would suspend all dealings with Al Jazeera, including its social media platforms, until the network reviews its editorial policy and demonstrates full adherence to neutrality and professional journalism.

The coalition stressed that media coverage must remain balanced and free from political influence to ensure fair representation of all Sudanese voices.
