Sudan’s Umma Party condemns SAF, allied militias Al-Jazirah massacre

Sudan’s National Umma Party has condemned the atrocities committed by militias led by Abu Aqla Kikil in the village of Kombo Tayba, located in the Al-Jazirah region.

The attacks resulted in the deaths of six civilians, primarily elderly individuals and children.

In a press statement released on January 13, 2025, the party expressed deep concern over these heinous crimes and held the leadership of General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) fully responsible for protecting citizens from allied militias.

They called for an immediate investigation into the massacre, the apprehension of the perpetrators, and an end to such violations against citizens across all regions. The party also warned against retaliatory practices and attempts to incite discord in Al-Jazirah state, cautioning against dragging citizens into what they described as a “destructive criminal war.”

The Kombo Tayba incident is part of a series of attacks in the region. The Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference in Al-Jazirah accused the Sudan Shield militia, led by Abu Aqla Kikil and allied with SAF, of severe violations amounting to ethnic cleansing in Kombo Tayba.

They reported that on January 9, 2025, six citizens were killed, including two children burned inside their homes, and 13 women were abducted. The assailants also looted property, stole agricultural crops and livestock, and burned the entire village, leading to the displacement of residents.

The National Umma Party’s condemnation underscores the escalating violence in Sudan’s regions and the complex alliances between official military forces and local militias.

The party’s call for accountability and protection of civilians highlights the urgent need for stability and security in the affected areas.
