Sumud rejects Port Sudan peace pitch as cover for war at UN

The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces, known as “Sumud”, sharply criticised remarks delivered by the Port Sudan Authority’s prime minister to the UN Security Council.

The alliance said the so-called Government of Hope for Peace Initiative lacked substance and offered no real path to ending war or suffering.

Instead, Sumud described the initiative as political camouflage, designed to shield the continuation of conflict rather than confront Sudan’s deepening national crisis.

It argued the proposal favoured a narrow minority profiting from war, while ignoring the clear anti-war stance of most Sudanese citizens.

Sumud said the initiative recycled familiar wartime rhetoric, even as Sudan endures one of the world’s gravest humanitarian disasters.

The alliance warned the plan sought to sidestep the Quartet’s roadmap issued on September 12, 2025, which gained broad popular and civil support.

It noted the roadmap faced opposition only from the National Congress Party, the Islamic Movement, and affiliated political fronts.

Sumud urged General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces to accept an immediate, unconditional humanitarian truce proposed by the Quartet.

The coalition also called on regional and international actors to unify peace efforts and prevent global platforms from prolonging Sudan’s war.
