Sudanese Founding Alliance has accused Egypt of using its diplomatic influence to circumvent Sudan’s suspension from the African Union.
The Alliance, also known as Tasis, condemned what it called manoeuvring after Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem addressed the AU Peace and Security Council for the first time since Sudan’s suspension five years ago.
The session was chaired by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, who defended the meeting as necessary dialogue and warned Sudan’s instability threatens regional security through arms smuggling, extremism and displacement.
Meanwhile, Salem met AU officials and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Addis Ababa, lobbying for Sudan’s reinstatement and greater coordination on relief and de-escalation.
The AU has tied Sudan’s return to the formation of a credible civilian-led government, while Tasis blames Egypt of undermining those conditions and urged firm international action.
