At least nine civilians were killed and 24 others injured in a drone strike allegedly carried out by the Sudanese army on Al-Mazroub in North Kordofan on Friday, according to the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS).
The alliance said the strike hit a populated area of the town on Friday morning, causing civilian casualties as fighting continues to intensify across the region. The figures are preliminary, and the death toll could change.
In a statement, TASIS condemned the attack and accused the army of violating international humanitarian law, particularly the rules governing the protection of civilians during armed conflict.
The alliance called on the international community, humanitarian organisations and human rights groups to intervene and demand accountability.
It also urged an urgent, independent and transparent investigation into the attack to establish the circumstances, identify those responsible and ensure accountability under international law.
