TASIS condemns deadly SAF drone strikes in Al-Daein and Kauda

The Sudan Founding Alliance, known as TASIS, has accused General al-Burhan’s SAF and the Muslim Brotherhood-linked authorities in Port Sudan of carrying out drone attacks that killed civilians in East Darfur and struck a humanitarian organization’s headquarters in South Kordofan.

In a statement issued on May 20, TASIS said a drone strike hit a house on a main road in Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, on Tuesday evening. The building reportedly contained a public viewing club and a grocery store.

According to the alliance, at least 15 civilians were killed in the strike and dozens more were wounded, some seriously.

TASIS said Kauda, in the Nuba Mountains region of South Kordofan, was also targeted on the same day. The alliance said the strike hit the headquarters of a humanitarian organization in the city, destroying a vehicle belonging to the Internal Security Forces as well as another civilian vehicle.

The alliance described the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law and said it reflected what it called a continued policy of targeting civilians, service facilities and humanitarian operations.

“These terrorist attacks reflect the Muslim Brotherhood authority’s determination to spread chaos, obstruct humanitarian work, and terrorize civilians,” TASIS said.

The alliance added that such attacks would not weaken the resolve of Sudanese communities and forces working toward what it described as a new Sudan based on freedom, peace and justice.

TASIS called on the international community and human rights organizations to condemn the conduct of the Port Sudan authorities, document alleged crimes and push for accountability.
