Sudan’s TASIS Security and Defence Council has ordered new measures to strengthen security in cities, protect civilians and safeguard the agricultural season following an emergency meeting attended by senior officials.
The meeting was chaired by Presidential Council head General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and attended by his deputy, Abdelaziz Adam al-Hilu, Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’ishi and other council members.
The council reviewed the military, security and political situation, as well as reports on crime, the economy, living conditions and preparations for the farming season.
According to council rapporteur and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Suleiman Sandal, the meeting assessed the implementation of earlier decisions aimed at addressing security challenges, strengthening the rule of law and improving the performance of security and law-enforcement agencies.
The council praised what it described as progress made by the relevant institutions and called for continued efforts to secure cities, maintain public order and reinforce state authority.
It also directed authorities to strengthen civilian protection, regulate markets, ease economic pressures and improve access to essential services.
The council ordered the formation of a dedicated mechanism to protect the agricultural season and facilitate the movement of pastoralist communities, amid concerns that insecurity could disrupt farming and livestock routes.
The meeting also reviewed recent developments on the battlefield and praised TASIS-affiliated forces operating on several fronts, particularly in Kordofan.
Sandal said the council reaffirmed its support for the military campaign against what the TASIS administration describes as the “Islamist Movement Army” and agreed to mobilise state resources in support of the war effort.
The broader council decisions provide a separate angle from Dagalo’s earlier remarks on military operations in Kordofan, which focused primarily on battlefield developments and instructions to TASIS forces.
