TASIS dismisses Port Sudan war crimes committee as ‘theatre’

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) on Friday dismissed a newly announced legal committee formed by authorities in Port Sudan as a “naive theatrical performance,” accusing General al-Burhan’s SAF-aligned administration of obstructing international justice efforts while continuing the war in Sudan.

In a statement issued Friday, TASIS spokesperson Ahmed Taqad Lisan criticized what he described as the “so-called Sudan News Agency (SUNA),” accusing it of operating under the control of the “terrorist Islamist movement authority in Port Sudan.”

The criticism came after SUNA reported that a body called the “National Committee for the Investigation of Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law” had held its first meeting in Khartoum to discuss activating its work and documenting violations in support of justice, accountability and ending impunity.

TASIS rejected the initiative, arguing that the Port Sudan authorities lacked credibility to oversee accountability mechanisms while, according to the alliance, continuing military operations and rejecting international mediation efforts.

“The authority in Port Sudan ignited the war, destroyed the country’s infrastructure, killed Sudanese civilians, rejected efforts to stop the fighting, and continues to harvest more lives through the machinery of war day after day,” the statement said.

The alliance also accused the Port Sudan administration of refusing to cooperate with independent international investigative bodies examining alleged violations committed during the conflict.

“TASIS believes issues of justice are indivisible,” the statement added. “If you truly seek justice, hand over those wanted by international justice, cooperate with independent investigation committees, and stop deceiving the people.”
