TASIS outlines plans for police force in areas under its control

The Peace Government affiliated with the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has announced plans to establish a police force in areas under its control based on professional and neutral standards aimed at ensuring fair representation from all regions of Sudan.

Prime Minister Mohammed Hassan al-Ta’aishi discussed the proposed framework for the police force during a meeting with Interior Minister Suleiman Sandal and Police Director-General Maj. Gen. Bashir Adam Issa, according to local media reports.

The discussions focused on creating a police institution tasked with protecting civilians and state institutions while enforcing the rule of law in coordination with other security and judicial bodies.

Al-Ta’aishi stressed the importance of ensuring the police force remains independent from ideological, political, or regional loyalties, emphasizing respect for human rights and the principles of justice, integrity, transparency, and democratic governance.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed structure and divisions of the police force, including uniforms, armament, training plans, salary frameworks, and projects related to civil registry services, criminal investigations, traffic police, prisons, and courts.

The move comes as al-Ta’aishi continues efforts to complete the institutional structures of the Peace Government and build state institutions following his signing of a decree in April establishing the transitional executive body. The decree outlined the body’s objectives, authorities, powers, and institutional framework under Sudan’s 2025 Transitional Constitution.
