The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has announced that its forces captured the strategic Maqja area in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile region, marking another reported battlefield gain as fighting intensifies along routes leading towards Damazin.
The alliance said on Friday that its fighters had secured the area following clashes with Sudan’s military and allied forces, according to Sudan Mix.
Maqja lies at a strategically important junction connecting Kurmuk, Damazin and the Ingessana Mountains. Control of the area could affect military movements and supply routes across several fronts in Blue Nile.
Sudanese outlet Al Sudania News cited field sources saying TASIS forces had established control of the junction, increasing pressure on army positions defending the regional capital.
The reported capture follows a series of military announcements by TASIS, including claims of advances around Sali, Al-Kayli, Kilo 6 and Bakori.
These developments have raised concerns over the military’s ability to maintain defensive positions across several approaches to Damazin, which hosts Sudan’s Fourth Infantry Division.
Maqja has previously been contested during the conflict, with both TASIS and Sudan’s military claiming control at different stages.
The latest territorial claim could not be independently verified.
Damazin remains under the control of Sudan’s military, which has reportedly deployed reinforcements to the region as TASIS and its allied forces expand operations across Blue Nile.
The latest developments highlight the growing strategic importance of the southeastern front, where prolonged fighting has disrupted transport routes and forced civilians to flee their homes.
TASIS says its operations are aimed at dismantling military positions held by forces aligned with the Port Sudan authorities and establishing control over strategically important areas of the region.
