Tasis works for new Sudan army free from divisions: Dagalo

Head of the Presidential Council in the “Founding” Government (Tasis) and commander of the Rapid Support Forces Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo said his administration is focused on rebuilding Sudanese institutions and establishing a new national army in an Eid al-Adha address.

Dagalo described the Tasis government project as going beyond a ceasefire effort, presenting it as a broad political plan aimed at reshaping governance in Sudan.

He said the initiative seeks to reform the justice system, redistribute power and wealth, and rebuild state institutions on transparent and professional foundations.

The remarks came as the “Founding” alliance expands its administrative presence in parts of Darfur and Kordofan held by allied groups.

The coalition includes political organisations and armed factions, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, which joined the alliance governing contested areas.

Dagalo called on neighbouring countries to support political efforts to rebuild Sudan, describing the current period as a critical turning point for the country.

He said his administration is engaged in what he described as an open confrontation with the Islamic Movement, accusing it of contributing to prolonged instability.

Dagalo blamed the Islamic Movement for triggering the conflict that began on April 15, 2023, and alleged that it continues to influence decisions within General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army.

He portrayed the war as a struggle between two opposing visions: one aimed at preserving existing power structures and another seeking freedom and equal citizenship.

Amid the ongoing conflict, Dagalo renewed calls for a professional national army based on shared national identity rather than tribal affiliation.

He said military institutions should remain free from ethnic and regional divisions, warning that internal fragmentation continues to deepen Sudan’s crisis.
