Three WFP staff killed in aerial bombardment in Sudan

The World Food Programme (WFP) has confirmed the tragic death of three staff members in an aerial bombardment in Sudan.

In a statement released Friday, the UN agency expressed outrage over the fatal attack that struck its field office on December 19, 2024.

“We are deeply shocked and outraged by this devastating loss of our colleagues,” WFP said in a statement on X.

The attack occurred amidst Sudan’s escalating conflict, which has raged since April 2023 between rival military factions vying for control.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army, is locked in a brutal battle against the Rapid Support Forces.

This latest violence highlights the deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where millions are teetering on the brink of famine.

On Thursday, WFP warned that Sudan could become the world’s largest hunger crisis, with 1.7 million people at famine risk.

Further details about the bombing remain unclear, and WFP has pledged to provide updates as investigations progress.

The agency’s loss underscores the dangers faced by humanitarian workers delivering aid in conflict zones like Sudan.

WFP reiterated its commitment to providing life-saving assistance despite the mounting threats in the region.

This incident adds urgency to global calls for an end to the violence that continues to devastate Sudan’s population.
