The National Umma Party in Sudan faces internal divisions after a senior delegation attends five-party consultations in Addis Ababa despite a boycott ordered by the party’s General Secretariat.
The delegation, led by Vice President Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, presents a four-point plan to address Sudan’s deepening crisis.
The proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, guaranteed humanitarian aid access, and confidence-building measures before formal political negotiations begin.
The party says ending the conflict and restoring state institutions should take priority over political rivalry and negotiations on transitional governance.
The delegation also urges reforms to the five-party mechanism, which includes the United Nations, African Union, European Union, IGAD and the Arab League, arguing the peace process should remain led by Sudanese stakeholders.
