The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reports that about 19.5 million people in Sudan face acute food insecurity between February and May 2026, representing roughly 41 percent of the population.
Conditions are expected to worsen further during the June–September lean season.
The assessment says around 135,000 people are in Phase 5 famine conditions, while over five million are in Phase 4 and about 14 million in Phase 3.
The crisis has displaced more than 8.9 million people, and around 40 percent of health facilities are no longer functioning.
Fourteen areas across North Darfur, South Darfur and South Kordofan are at risk of famine if fighting intensifies and access declines.
The IPC warns that about 825,000 children under five could suffer severe acute malnutrition in 2026, as conflict, disrupted services and rising food costs continue to deepen the humanitarian emergency.
