UN launches aid programme for separated children in Sudan

Aid officials and humanitarian partners have launched a support programme for separated children in Sudan’s Damazin.

Acting Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Professor Qisma Abdelkarim Daldoum and a coordinator from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs attended the launch event.

The initiative, organised by the regional Child Welfare Council, focuses on children separated from their families amid ongoing hardship and displacement.

With support from the World Child Welfare Organization, the programme is assisting 12 children living at Al-Mukhtar School shelter centre in Qanis Sharq.

Officials say the aid includes food supplies and essential non-food items, providing relief to children facing uncertain and fragile conditions.

Professor Zahra Ahmed Al-Sanousi, secretary of the regional Child Welfare Council, said local staff and international partners jointly carried out the programme.

She said the effort highlights continued cooperation between local authorities and global organisations to support vulnerable children.

The programme comes as humanitarian pressures increase, with separated children among the most at risk of neglect and deprivation.

Organisers say the initiative aims not only to meet urgent needs but also to restore dignity and a sense of stability.

Aid workers described the launch as a small but important step toward protecting children affected by crisis.
