UN official calls for urgent action in war-torn Sudan

The United Nations humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, has issued a urgent plea for international action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

After a recent visit to the war-torn country and neighboring Chad, Fletcher witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict.

The conflict between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the rival Rapid Support Forces has resulted in a massive displacement of millions of people and a severe humanitarian crisis.

The UN has described the situation as one of the worst in recent history.

Fletcher’s visit to El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, allowed him to hear firsthand accounts of the suffering endured by refugees and displaced persons.

He highlighted the urgent need for food, medicine, shelter, and other essential aid to reach those in need.

The UN has extended aid deliveries to Sudan for another three months, with the Adre crossing serving as a critical lifeline for humanitarian assistance.

However, the challenges remain immense, as the conflict continues to escalate and hinder relief efforts.

The international community is urged to provide significant support to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
