A senior adviser to US President Donald Trump has accused the Sudanese Armed Forces of carrying out an air strike inside neighbouring Chad, warning that Sudan’s war risks spilling across its borders and destabilising the wider region.
Massad Boulos said he discussed the alleged attack during a telephone call with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
Boulos said he expressed Washington’s “deep concern” over the potential expansion of the Sudanese conflict into Chad, warning that cross-border military activity could fuel further escalation.
He also called for an end to the foreign financial and military support reaching Sudan’s warring parties, which has helped prolong a conflict that has already triggered one of the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crises.
The two officials also discussed Chad’s role in facilitating humanitarian access to Sudan’s Darfur region and hosting Sudanese refugees who have fled the fighting.
Boulos conveyed Washington’s appreciation for Chad’s cooperation and said the United States hoped to continue coordinating with N’Djamena on humanitarian and regional security issues.
The Sudanese army has not publicly responded to the US allegation. No independently verified evidence concerning the reported strike was immediately available.
