The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to working toward an end to the ongoing war in Sudan, describing the conflict as the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe at present.
Speaking during a session of the United Nations Security Council, Masad Boulos said the fighting between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been marked by serious violations committed by both sides.
Boulos also warned that figures linked to the Muslim Brotherhood have been operating behind the scenes in an attempt to reassert political control in Sudan. He stressed that Washington will not accept any efforts by what he described as Islamist networks to regain influence or return to power.
He emphasized that those responsible for atrocities committed during the conflict will face consequences, calling for an inclusive political process that leads to democratic elections. Sudan’s future, he said, must be determined by civilians rather than military leaders.
Boulos concluded by reiterating Washington’s commitment to supporting efforts to end the war and back a political pathway that restores stability and alleviates the suffering of the Sudanese people.
