US sanctions network recruiting Colombians for Sudan war

The United States imposed sanctions on Friday targeting five individuals and companies recruiting Colombian ex-soldiers to fight in Sudan.

“This network has fueled conflict, worsening one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and deepening famine conditions,” Treasury said.

The United States urged General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces to accept a three-month humanitarian truce without conditions officials said.

The three-year war between Burhan’s army and RSF has created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, aid groups warn.

Targets include Fenix Human Resources SAS, Jose Libardo Quijano Torres, and other recruiting firms and managers in Bogota, Colombia.

The sanctions freeze all US-linked assets and block property interests of designated individuals and companies concerned authorities say today globally.

An international conference raised over 1.5 billion euros in humanitarian pledges as global attention shifts from Sudan crisis, and focus wanes.
