Heavy rains batter Pakistan, causing deaths and disruptions

Pakistan has been grappling with heavy rain since Thursday, leading to devastating consequences.

Over 30 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the country, officials reported on Sunday.

The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been particularly hard-hit.

Collapsed buildings caused by the relentless downpour claimed the lives of 27 individuals, including 18 children, according to Taimur Ali Khan, spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

Landslides triggered by the rain added another fatality to the grim tally, while over 150 houses sustained damage.

The situation in Balochistan province, located in the south, is equally concerning.

Local disaster management agency head Jahanzain Khan confirmed five deaths due to building collapses on Thursday and Friday.

Infrastructure has also been severely impacted, with damaged roads, floods, and landslides isolating villages from major towns.

Similar reports emerged from Gilgit-Baltistan, where major roads were blocked.

Adding to the woes, Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has predicted further rainfall and snowfall across the region on Sunday.

This raises concerns about the potential for worsening conditions and additional casualties.
