The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is in a state of shock after learning that the Ministry of Sports unilaterally appointed Marc Brys as the new head coach of the national team.
This unexpected move comes just as former coach Rigobert Song’s contract expired following the Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, FECAFOOT expressed its “great astonishment” at the decision.
The federation claims it learned about the appointment “at the same time as all Cameroonians.”
They further criticized the Ministry’s action, calling it “unilateral” and a violation of “Decree No. 2014/384 of September 26, 2014 relating to the organization and operation of national football teams.”
FECAFOOT is currently seeking clarification on this “regrettable situation.”
Meanwhile, Brys is poised to take the reins of the Indomitable Lions, the team Song led to the round of 16 at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.
