Khartoum fuel station attack leaves dozens dead

A deadly shelling of a fuel station in southern Khartoum has left 28 civilians dead and 37 others injured.

The attack occurred in an area under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking another grim chapter in Sudan’s escalating conflict.

The South Belt Emergency Response Room, a youth-led volunteer group, reported the casualties on Sunday, emphasizing that most injuries involved severe burns and shrapnel wounds.

Since April 2023, General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the RSF have been locked in a bitter struggle, with recent weeks seeing intensified efforts by the army to reclaim Khartoum.

Led by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the military is attempting to wrest control from the RSF, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The war has left tens of thousands dead and displaced over 11 million people, creating what the UN calls the world’s largest displacement crisis.

Meanwhile, the RSF has solidified its hold on Darfur.

The government, loyal to Burhan, remains based in Port Sudan, a Red Sea coastal city under army control.
