Mandela grandson arrested in South Africa for hijacking

Five individuals, including a grandson of former President Nelson Mandela, were arrested in Johannesburg on Wednesday following a carjacking incident.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) received information from a car tracking company about the location of a hijacked vehicle.

Upon investigating, officers discovered the stolen vehicle at the former residence of Nelson Mandela in the Houghton estate.

Four males and one female were apprehended at the property.

A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.

The incident occurred earlier that day on Louis Botha Avenue in Oaklands, Johannesburg. The victim of the hijacking was unharmed.

The arrested individuals are expected to appear in court to face charges related to carjacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
