
Flooding in Bahri, Khartoum state, has displaced more than 1,200 families, the UN’s International Organization for Migration said on Sunday. The agency said five homes were destroyed and most others suffered partial damage. Some residents left pre-emptively, while the displaced are sheltering with nearby host communities.
Heavy rains and rising levels on the Nile and its tributaries — the White Nile from Lake Victoria and the Blue Nile from Ethiopia’s highlands — have inundated several regions in recent weeks. Official figures say more than 125,000 people have been affected by rains and floods since June 30.
Sudan’s June–October rainy season routinely brings widespread flooding. This year’s inundations come amid a war between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces that erupted in April 2023, killing thousands and displacing millions.
