Qimam alliance vows to uproot Islamist extremist doctrine

The United Civil Forces Alliance, known as Qimam, announced a nationwide campaign to eradicate the ideology of Sudan’s Islamic Movement and warned regional and international states against any form of backing for the group.

In a press statement, Qimam chairman Haroun Madikhir said the alliance would pursue a “determined” strategy to correct what it described as the movement’s “deviant” ideas and to rebuild public awareness across Sudan’s regions. “We will work through the alliance’s institutions to rescue Sudanese society from the policies of this extremist organisation,” he said.

Madikhir added that Qimam — which he described as inclusive of all Sudan’s regions and provinces — has a comprehensive plan to promote tolerance and tackle the root causes of radicalisation. He named ending the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a top strategic objective and said the alliance would adopt measures to shield civilians from abuses by groups aligned with the movement.

The statement also singled out the United Arab Emirates as a positive model in countering terrorism and urged other states that “respect Sudan and its people” to follow suit. Qimam warned that any military, diplomatic or political support for the Islamic Movement would have “catastrophic” consequences that could spill beyond Sudan’s borders and pose wider international challenges.
