The Quadripartite Mechanism for Sudan has formed a joint operations committee to coordinate urgent priorities aimed at ending the country’s conflict, US Presidential Advisor for African Affairs Masad Boulos has announced.
Boulos said the decision was made during meetings in Washington, where participants discussed steps to advance peace and stability in Sudan.
He stated that the talks focused on securing an immediate humanitarian truce, achieving a permanent ceasefire, halting foreign support to armed groups, and resuming the transition to civilian rule.
Boulos added that members reaffirmed their commitment to the Quartet’s roadmap issued on September 12, which outlines a three-month truce, a ceasefire, and a political process leading to civilian governance.
The Quadripartite Mechanism — comprising the United States, Saudi Arabia, the African Union, and IGAD — has led mediation efforts since the conflict erupted in April 2023 between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces.
