Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said they have opened an investigation into journalist Muammar Ibrahim on a charge of “defamation,” after he allegedly described the RSF as a “militia” and “Janjaweed.”
In a video released by the RSF on Tuesday, spokesperson al-Fateh Qureshi said Ibrahim was detained last week while leaving El Fasher following the RSF’s takeover of the city and later transferred to Nyala. Qureshi accused Ibrahim of lacking neutrality and said his release would depend on the completion of questioning and approval by RSF leadership.
The video showed Ibrahim in RSF custody. No formal charge sheet, court date, or access details for legal counsel were announced in the clip.
