RSF gears up for major assault on El Obeid, military leak reveals

A leaked Sudanese military document obtained by Darfur24 suggests the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are preparing a major assault on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, after consolidating their hold over much of Darfur.

According to the document, RSF commanders have massed more than 380 combat vehicles west of El Obeid, awaiting final operational clearance before advancing. The reported buildup follows the RSF’s capture of El Fasher in late October, which marked the collapse of General al-Burhan army’s (SAF) last major stronghold in Darfur.

Meanwhile, intense fighting has entered its third day in Babanusa, West Kordofan, home to the SAF’s 22nd Division headquarters. Local sources told Darfur24 that roughly 300 RSF vehicles have been redeployed from Darfur to reinforce the Babanusa front, where the group has been attempting to overrun the besieged garrison.

To sustain morale and recruitment, the RSF reportedly distributed cash bonuses of $600 to each fighter and up to $1,000 to officers. Witnesses in Al-Daein confirmed long queues of RSF personnel exchanging U.S. dollars for Sudanese pounds after the payouts.

Eyewitnesses also described RSF convoys moving heavy weapons under tight escort toward Babanusa, while SAF sources in El Obeid claimed they recently shot down two RSF drones using a newly deployed defense system designed to intercept long-range UAVs.

Civil authorities in West Kordofan have urged SAF units inside the 22nd Division headquarters to allow civilians to evacuate the area, but no response has been issued.

Independent verification of the leaked document remains pending, but the reported troop movements align with a broader RSF push eastward since the fall of El Fasher.
