Nigerian authorities seize cocaine and detain crew at Lagos port

Nigerian authorities have seized more than 31 kilograms of cocaine and detained 22 Indian crew members after intercepting a merchant vessel in Lagos.

The operation unfolded at Apapa port, Nigeria’s largest harbour, where officials boarded the ship following intelligence-led surveillance on Friday.

The vessel, identified as MV Aruna Hulya, arrived from the Marshall Islands and was found carrying 31.5 kilograms of concealed cocaine.

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said all crew members were taken into custody for questioning over their alleged links to the shipment.

In a parallel crackdown, officers also intercepted ketamine, ecstasy and tramadol hidden in coffee sachets and book parcels.

Those consignments were bound for Zambia and the United Kingdom and were seized between December 24 and 29, the agency said.

The NDLEA added that coordinated operations led to multiple arrests and drug seizures across Oyo, Borno, Lagos, Jigawa and Kwara states.
