Algeria removed central bank governor Salah Eddine Taleb on Sunday, appointing deputy Mouatassem Boudiaf as acting governor by decree.
State media reported the decision, citing a presidential decree that offered no public explanation for Taleb’s sudden dismissal.
Taleb had led the central bank since May 2022, overseeing monetary policy during a period of economic pressure.
The abrupt leadership change places Boudiaf at the helm as Algeria navigates financial stability and investor confidence amid renewed uncertainty.
