Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Tuesday with UN envoy Ramtane Lamamra in Cairo to discuss Sudan’s conflict.
The talks precede the fifth consultative mechanism session, aimed at coordinating international efforts to restore peace in Sudan.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support, highlighting the country’s commitment to Sudan’s unity, stability, and state institutions.
Lamamra praised Egypt’s political and humanitarian role, including hosting displaced Sudanese and promoting ceasefire conditions.
The Cairo meeting will include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the US, the African Union, Arab League, UN, IGAD, and EU.
Additional participants include the UK, France, China, Russia, Iraq, Djibouti, and Angola.
Sudan has faced deadly conflict since April 2023, when clashes erupted between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces over integration into the military.
The RSF controls most of Darfur, while the army holds the capital Khartoum and large parts of the country.
The consultative session aims to coordinate international action and support a comprehensive political process to end Sudan’s crisis.
