Burhan’s drone strike targets marketplace, killing at least two

At least two people were killed when a drone strike hit the main market in Abu Zaima, in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, on Saturday, residents said.

Witnesses said the drone belonged to the army of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and targeted a vehicle parked beside a shop.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said the explosion ripped through the busy marketplace, triggering panic and sending traders fleeing.

Several stalls were burned, street vendors lost their goods, and thick smoke rose over the area.

Another resident said it was the second drone attack on the market in two days, after an earlier strike hit parts of the same area.

Abu Zaima’s market is a key trading hub, linking Northern State with Darfur and neighbouring parts of Kordofan.

Sudan has been at war since April 2023, between General al Burhan army and the Rapid Support Forces.
