Khartoum receives first flight returning Sudanese refugees

Khartoum received the first “Hope” flight from Cairo, marking the start of a voluntary return programme for Sudanese refugees amid ongoing national challenges.

The Hope Committee for the Voluntary Return of Sudanese Refugees said 107 deportees travelled alongside elderly passengers, patients, and pregnant women given priority assistance.

Committee chairman Mohamed Wadah said the operation was organised with support from the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo and cooperation from Egyptian authorities.

He added that the initiative was funded through donations from businessmen and carried out under the patronage of Prime Minister Kamil Idris and Ambassador Imad al-Din Adawi.

A committee delegation accompanied the flight to monitor conditions and ensure procedures were properly implemented during the return process.

Wadah said additional flights would continue under a planned schedule, with application procedures for future returnees to be announced soon.

He also called for continued coordination between Sudan and Egypt to ensure the programme’s success and safe repatriation of refugees.

The chairman concluded by thanking the Egyptian people for their hospitality and continued support for Sudanese refugees during the crisis.
