UK says Kamil Idris visit was not made on official invitation

The British government has said that Kamil Idris’ visit to the United Kingdom was not made at the invitation of the UK government, according to an official response to a parliamentary question on recent political developments in Sudan.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office reaffirmed London’s position that Sudan’s future must be decided by the Sudanese people through an inclusive political process that reflects their will, without outside imposition.

The ministry said it continues to engage and consult with members of the Sudanese community in the UK, describing the diaspora as an important part of discussions on Sudan’s future and possible paths toward peace.

It added that this engagement focuses on developments in Sudan’s crisis, efforts to end the conflict, and support for a fair and sustainable civilian transition that meets Sudanese aspirations for stability and democracy.

Observers say Britain’s emphasis on the role of Sudanese people both inside the country and abroad reflects continued international concern over Sudan, as peace efforts remain stalled and the humanitarian and political crisis caused by the war continues.
