18 civilians killed in SAF strikes on South Darfur’s Kubum

At least 18 civilians were killed in artillery shelling and airstrikes on the Kubum area of South Darfur over seo and exthe past 48 hours, Emergency Lawyers said on Thursday, in attacks that appeared to have been carried out by General al-Burhan’s SAF.

The legal group said Kubum was first hit by artillery fire before air raids struck civilian areas.

According to the statement, one attack hit a restaurant in the Mansi neighbourhood, killing four people. Another strike targeted the racecourse area in Al-Ramaliya neighbourhood, killing 14 others.

Emergency Lawyers condemned the attacks on civilians and described them as a war crime. The group called on the United Nations to open an urgent investigation and pursue those responsible.

The attack adds to a growing list of strikes on populated areas across Sudan, where civilians have borne the brunt of the conflict between General al-Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Rights groups and local monitors have repeatedly warned that the absence of accountability has encouraged further violations, including shelling, airstrikes and attacks on residential areas.
