Suspected SAF drone strike kills 11 civilians in North Kordofan market

At least 11 civilians were killed and dozens more injured on Saturday after a suspected SAF drone strike hit a market in the Abu Zaeima area of Hamrat Al-Sheikh locality in North Kordofan state, according to an initial toll that could rise.

Emergency Lawyers said the attack came less than a day after similar strikes targeted villages and civilian vehicles in the same area, marking a continued escalation in attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The group did not directly identify the party behind the strike. However, the attack took place amid intensified operations by General al-Burhan’s SAF in North Kordofan, where it has been seeking to regain ground from the RSF.

Emergency Lawyers strongly condemned the attack, saying the repeated targeting of civilians, villages and civilian transport showed a blatant disregard for human life and the basic rules of international humanitarian law.

The group said the continued killing of civilians could not be treated as routine, describing it as a dangerous escalation that requires an immediate halt to such attacks and accountability for those responsible.

The Abu Zaeima strike adds to growing concern over the expanding use of drones and air attacks in Sudan’s war, particularly in areas where civilians have little access to protection, emergency services or safe routes of escape.
