Djibouti has called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and urged the country’s warring parties to return to negotiations.
Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Hussein Omar said Djibouti is ready to support any diplomatic initiative aimed at launching direct political dialogue to end the conflict.
He warned that the continued fighting is affecting the wider Horn of Africa region and poses a threat to its stability.
Omar stressed the importance of maintaining security in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, describing it as vital to the safety of international shipping routes in the Red Sea.
As chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, Djibouti is prioritising political efforts to preserve Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said.
The minister noted that President Ismail Omar Guelleh is leading efforts to help ease tensions and support mediation initiatives aimed at resolving overlapping regional security challenges.
He also called on the international community to increase humanitarian assistance for Sudanese civilians affected by the war.
Omar said lasting economic development across the Horn of Africa depends on ending the region’s ongoing conflicts and achieving sustainable peace.
