RSF claims Kordofan units are moving toward El Obeid

The Rapid Support Forces said a column from its Kordofan sectors was advancing toward El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, as international concern mounts over the fate of the strategic city.

In a post on its official Telegram channel, the RSF said the “first group” from its Kordofan sectors was approaching El Obeid as part of what it described as hundreds of moving units heading toward the city.

The claim could not be independently verified. It comes amid rising tension around El Obeid, a key city linking central Sudan with Darfur and Kordofan, and one that has become a major focus of the war between the RSF and the SAF.

The announcement follows days of warnings from international officials over the deteriorating situation in and around El Obeid. The UN Human Rights Council on Monday ordered an urgent investigation into alleged abuses in the city and surrounding areas, after UN officials warned of the risk of further atrocities if fighting escalates.

El Obeid has been under growing military pressure as both sides continue to battle for control of routes across Kordofan. The city is seen as a vital junction for movement between Darfur, White Nile, Khartoum and other parts of central Sudan.

Humanitarian groups have warned that a major escalation around El Obeid could trigger further displacement from an already fragile region. Aid agencies say civilians face worsening shortages, damaged infrastructure and shrinking escape routes as fighting intensifies.

The RSF has framed its latest movements as part of a wider Kordofan campaign. General Burhan’s SAF has not immediately commented on the RSF claim.
