Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned on Thursday that Israel would target Iran’s military, energy and civilian infrastructure if Tehran launched an attack against the country.
The threat comes amid renewed tensions in the Middle East following the largest exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran since July. Washington struck targets along Iran’s southern coast, prompting Tehran to fire missiles at US military bases across the region.
Israel has so far remained outside the latest round of fighting, despite joining the United States in an air campaign against Iran in February.
Addressing Defence Ministry employees, Katz said any Iranian attack on Israel would remove what he described as existing restrictions on Israeli military action against Tehran.
“We will cripple all of Iran’s national military and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure,” Katz said, adding that Israel would push the country “deep into the Stone Age and darkness.”
His comments marked Israel’s latest warning to Iran as concerns grow that the escalating US-Iran confrontation could draw other regional powers into the conflict.
