Sudan’s military has issued a warning to civilians across Darfur and Kordofan, urging residents to stay away from Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions and military equipment amid escalating fighting in western Sudan.

Mohamed Didan, spokesperson for the Sudanese army’s Special Operations Forces in West Kordofan, called on residents to avoid areas where RSF fighters and military vehicles are concentrated, citing potential threats to civilian safety.

In a statement published on Facebook and reported by local Sudanese media on Tuesday, Didan urged communities to exercise extreme caution and maintain a safe distance from military installations and troop concentrations.

The warning comes as Sudan’s military intensifies aerial operations against RSF positions across Darfur and Kordofan, where fighting has expanded in recent weeks.

Army strikes have reportedly targeted RSF positions and supply routes in West Kordofan and South Darfur, including around Nyala, as the two sides continue competing for control of strategically important territory.

The latest warning also follows reports of deadly drone strikes in West Kordofan, where attacks on civilian areas have killed dozens of people.

An attack near a market in Al-Dibab on Sunday reportedly killed at least 80 people, according to witnesses and local accounts. RSF-aligned authorities blamed the Sudanese military for the strike.

Didan did not identify specific locations covered by the warning or announce a timetable for further military operations.

The statement has raised renewed concerns about civilian exposure to aerial attacks as fighting continues across densely populated areas of western Sudan.

Sudan’s conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has devastated large parts of Darfur and Kordofan, displacing millions and leaving communities increasingly vulnerable to violence, hunger and the collapse of essential services.
