Trump says no Iran attack today as tensions mount

President Donald Trump speaks to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on October 25, 2026

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Washington would not launch a military strike against Iran that day, stepping back from earlier remarks suggesting an attack could be imminent.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said his administration remained focused on ensuring that Tehran never acquires a nuclear weapon, while indicating that a resolution to the confrontation could be approaching.

“You will see an end to this very soon, one way or another,” Trump said, without specifying whether Washington would pursue further military action or a diplomatic agreement.

The US president also expressed confidence in Washington’s handling of Iran, saying American intelligence agencies possessed extensive information about Tehran’s activities.

“We’re doing very well with Iran,” Trump said, describing US intelligence on the country as highly advanced.

His latest comments came just a day after he suggested that Washington was considering another military operation against Iran, potentially within 24 hours.

Trump had previously declined to reveal whether an attack had been authorised, saying military action remained an option alongside a possible agreement with Tehran.

The conflicting signals have heightened uncertainty over Washington’s next steps as tensions between the two countries continue.

Although Trump ruled out an immediate strike, he offered no firm assurances against future military action, leaving open the possibility of renewed hostilities if diplomatic efforts fail.
