Unemployed South African man gets lottery cash after excruciating wait

An unemployed gambler is rejoicing as the winnings he secured at a casino several months ago have now been deposited into his account.

“I am so happy. Now my dream can get off the ground,” Israel Mogotsi told South African media.

According to local media, Mr. Mogotsi secured a grand total of 420,000 rand ($23,000; £19,000) in July while playing bingo at the Carousel casino near Pretoria. He opted to accept his winnings in smaller monthly installments.

However, after the initial two months, he contends that the payments ceased, leaving him in a financial bind and experiencing a sense of having the rug pulled out from under him.

Upon being informed of Mr. Mogotsi’s predicament, South African local media reached out to the Carousel casino. Within a day, the remaining funds were promptly deposited in full into his account.

The Carousel casino, in the process of relocating to a more affluent neighborhood, clarified that the delays in payments were due to a backlog in their processing system.

Simon Mogapi, the manager responsible for gambling control at the North West Gambling Board, informed the media that they were cognizant of the dispute and supervised the resolution of a final agreement.

Regarding Mr. Mogotsi, the bingo winner, he already has a blueprint for investing his winnings in a new career.

“I want to buy four Ubers [taxis] and put them to work in the east of Pretoria.”
