At least 35 people were killed and six others wounded in an intercommunal clash in Chad’s southwest Logone Occidental province, a government spokesperson confirmed on Thursday.
The violence erupted in a village on Wednesday, with tensions primarily driven by disputes between herders and local farmers over grazing rights. Such deadly confrontations are common in Chad, often fueled by conflicts between pastoralists and agricultural communities accusing each other of land encroachment.
Security forces responded swiftly, bringing the situation under control. A government delegation has since arrived to provide assistance to those affected by the violence.
